Anorexia
is a complex condition. It is
difficult to define it briefly. An
anorexic person can at the same time show a lack of appetite and a desire to eat, which can
suddenly turn into disgust for food.
Paradoxically, it can show bulimic crises often followed by deliberate vomiting. Anorexia is often the expression of an
unbalanced, traumatised and very fragile psychic state. It can often lead to serious physical
deficiencies and leave long lasting sequels. |

Causes
for anorexia are complex and vary from one person to another. Some causes are common, however, to many
cases: emotional problems at puberty, especially in parent-child
relationships, problems with self-esteem, with self-image and with feelings
of guilt and self-punishment. Anorexia
is an illness that requires specific medical, nutritional and psychological treatment. |

Nutritional follow-up is essential because the person must
build a whole new system of feeding references and habits with which he/she must
feel comfortable. He/she must also
build new tastes and preferences: a taste for food, taste for non destructive
pleasures, a taste for calm and peace, a taste for relationships, a taste for life as a whole. |

Shiatsu can
also be very useful to help overcome an anorexic condition. Shiatsu helps relax tensions and ease
anxieties while releasing physical tenseness and vital energy. |
