energy and harmony, naturally

When we are in good health, we sleep well without waking up at night.  Insomnia and broken sleep may be due to many causes, for example :

*              Stress, anxiety, worry, insecurity, often resulting in nightmares and difficulty in falling asleep

*              food too rich (hence a difficult digestion) and/or unbalanced

*              irregular meals, late meals

*              too many stimulants like coffee, tea, alcoholic beverages, sweets and cakes, fruit, vitamins, etc.

*              fever or any discomfort from illness or pain

When we are in good health, we fall asleep a few minutes after going to bed.  If we suffer from frequent or regular insomnia, we must seek medical and nutritional advice.  At the end of the day, our body is naturally tired and needs some rest.  How tired we are depends on our daily activity.  An inability to fall asleep easily or to sleep the whole night through must be taken very seriously.  We must seek professional help to treat this condition.

How long we sleep varies from one person to another, depending on their body needs, activity, eating habits, etc.  Some people, naturally, need little sleep (three or four hours a night), while others need nine or ten hours.  Moreover our needs vary with our general condition and our daily activities.

A few tips to sleep better :

take 15 to 30 minutes to consciously relax before going to sleep, using, for example, yoga or do-in techniques

*              do not eat less than three hours before going to sleep.

*              do not drink liquid less than one hour before going to sleep.

*              avoid physical efforts or exercises less than two hours before going to sleep.
