energy and harmony, naturally

Anyone in good health falls asleep only a few minutes after going to bed at night.

Anyone in good health sleeps through without waking up during the night.  Insomnia and waking up at night may be due to many causes, among which:

*   stress, anxiety, worry or insecurity, often causing nightmares

*   too much of heavy or unbalanced food causing a difficult digestion

*   irregular and/or late meals

*   too many stimulants (like coffee, tea, alcohol, sugar, vitamins, etc.)

*   fever or any discomfort caused by illness or some body malfunction

How much we sleep varies from one individual to the next, according to our natural constitution, our activity and our general life behaviour.  Some people need very little sleep (three or four hours a night) while others need to sleep nine or ten hours.  Of course this need for sleep varies with our general condition and health, and with the type and quantity of physical and mental activity we have during the day.

We can also rest with sleep in several shorter periods during the day.  Mediterranean people often take a siesta in the afternoon.

Some advice to sleep well:

*        take 15 to 30 minutes to consciously relax before going to sleep, using yoga or do-in techniques for example.

*        do not eat anything less than 3 hours before going to sleep

*        do not drink anything (even water) less than one hour before going to sleep

*        avoid physical exercise and efforts less than three hours before going to sleep
